CatchLab is a personal fishing log app for iPhone, operated by Lakeview Canyon, based in Westlake Village, CA ("we," "us"). We are the data controller for the information described in this policy. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect only what the app needs to work, we never sell your data, and we do not show ads or use advertising trackers.
Account information. Your first and last name, email address, and a password when you create an account. Passwords are never stored in readable form.
Your fishing data. The catches, trips, tackle, rigs, notes, and measurements you log in the app. This is the whole point of CatchLab, and it belongs to you.
Photos. Pictures you take or attach to your catches and trips.
Location. CatchLab uses location in three ways, all with your permission through iOS location prompts:
You can decline location access in iOS Settings and still use the app; features that depend on location will simply be unavailable, and you can look up weather by city or zip code instead.
Technical data. Like any online service, our servers automatically record basic technical information when the app connects, such as your IP address and request logs. During the beta period, Apple TestFlight may also provide us with crash reports and feedback you choose to send. We use this information only to keep the service running and fix problems.
What we do not collect. No advertising identifiers, no analytics trackers, no contact lists, no browsing history.
Your data is used to run the app for you: showing your log, your stats, your maps, and your weather. It is also used to operate your account, such as sending a confirmation email when you sign up or a reset email if you forget your password. That is it. We do not sell your information, share it with advertisers, or use it for marketing.
When you add a photo, CatchLab strips the technical metadata (EXIF), including any GPS coordinates embedded by your camera, before the photo is stored. The location of a catch lives only in your protected account data, not inside the photo file.
CatchLab uses a small number of service providers to operate:
We do not share your data with anyone else, except if required by law.
Data travels between your phone and our servers over encrypted connections. Sign-in tokens are stored in your device's secure keychain. Access to your records is enforced by per-user rules at the database level, so you can only read and write your own records. Photos are stored privately and served through time-limited access links.
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your records and photos are removed immediately, and residual copies are purged from our backups within 30 days. Server logs are retained for 30 days and then deleted.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to request access to your data, restrict or object to its processing, receive it in a portable format, and lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Our legal basis for processing your data is the performance of our service to you (running your account and your log) and our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and functioning. Contact us at support@getcatchlab.com to exercise any of these rights.
CatchLab is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
If this policy changes in a material way, we will notify you by email or an in-app notice before the change takes effect, and we will update this page and the date at the top. During the beta period, we may also note changes in TestFlight release notes.
